Proper diet can give your hermit crab beautiful colors. These colors are a decent indication that your hermit crab is receiving necessary nutrition and is relatively healthy, at least diet-wise. Health can prevent unnecessary stress as well as aid in molts.
Here is a list of what colors give a crab certain colors. It is incompletely but will be added to in the future.
Blue: coconut
Red and orange (have lots of Beta Carotene Carrots Spirulina Sea Weeds Maple leaves Blueberries Broccoli Cantelope Dandelion greens Papaya Parsley Chard Cilantro Pumpkin Sweet Potato Bell pepper (excluded green)
NOTE: Genetics also play a factory. For example, you cannot expect a C. Perlatus to turn blue from eating coconut.
